Whose line is it anyway? And what the heck does this mean? I don’t like the fact that the only details we hear in the media are that it is expensive, it will be competitive and everyone will be covered. Sounds great but seems so short on detail that one doesn’t know if the target will get hit with the missile that they (who is it that’s writing the bills exactly? & they’re locked in a closet drafting it?) are building.
I agree there are issues with our system. I’d like to hear them debated more. What ever happened to talk of allowing multiple-state insurance plans instead of 50 separate markets? What about buying drugs from the Canadians? What about limiting malpractice awards? In case you missed it malpractice insurance is exponentially higher than health care & is a significant cause for doctor shortages in NJ in obstetrics/gynecology.
Btw, it’s a tough sell when the government claims they will fund things through streamlining itself to save costs. I think the system is to big too be efficient. Anywho, not sure when we will find out some real details so that the fear factor can settle down. Until politicians start talking the details people will continue to fret the worst.
In the interests of full disclosure the author is married to a physician.

I’m not fully confident that the right thing will be done. Certainly the system is broken. I have lost a good doctor that had to leave my state because of the Insurance Costs and move to Delaware.
I think now is the time however to do SOMETHING. I wish this wasnt so politicized. The GOP is looking to hand Obama a failure rather than work together that both parties could agree on. The DEMS will likely just ram something down their throats in revenge for the last 8 years.
Doesnt help real people though. I wish I could hear more details too. Who will give us details however? Palin’s ‘Death Committee?’

I’m disappointed that the details are scant. it seems pols on both sides aren’t saying much other than “don’t worry I wouldn’t vote for a bill which would cost you more” or “you will all die if this bill passes.” How exactly does a government run option create competition? The government can underpay everyone. Doctors complain that they can’t survive on existing Medicare funding levels. What if everyone’s plan paid at that level, I think that more docs would go out of business. Does it help that most of the pols are lawyers, i think this may inhibit their ability to support tort reform? I want to know if the provision in the early house bill that said you can keep your existing private insurance but you can’t change it unless you join the government one is still in the bill? I agree that whatver bill gets passed will not likely solve the problem and just create more. BTW, Sarah Palin actually chairs the death committee. It’s most famous recent decision was to prematurely end her governorship, go figure…
